GOP: The party of uniformity, inequity and exclusion
Pete Buttigieg's explanation of Trump-reviled DEI policies is on the mark
Intro by Sam Bellamy
You may have seen a short video circulating of Pete Buttigieg explaining to a group of “regular people” — according to the headline on the post — the merits of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. The fuller clip, with a bit more detail and context, is posted below. The segment regarding DEI begins around the 33:10 mark.
Buttigieg is one of our smartest and most eloquent politicians, all the more valuable and refreshing because our current leaders are obviously short on smarts and eloquence. Whether he’d make a good president is up for debate, but he’d certainly be a better option for the Senate or House than the many Democrats getting steamrolled by Trump.
This clip, from before the election, shows Buttigieg explaining to a group of perplexingly undecided voters why Kamala Harris was a better choice than Trump.
As Buttigieg explains here, DEI isn’t about giving any group of people preference over another — despite Trump’s fearmongering claims. It’s about ensuring all groups get a fair chance at creating better lives for themselves and their loved ones, in part because of historic injustices that have never quite left us.
“To me the whole point of government,” Buttigieg says at one point, “is to find ways to make more people better off without making more people worse off.”
Pretty much sums up what Trump is not interested in doing.
