Malice and rage
Democrats cannot wait until midterms to dismantle this malevolent administration
Intro by Sam Bellamy
Bantam rooster Greg Bovino is out as “commander at-large” of Customs and Border Patrol.
Kristi Noem is the subject of an impeachment inquiry by Senate Democrats and, in a separate effort, 145 Democrats in the House have already signed articles of impeachment against her.
Donald Trump told Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey that he’s removing some ICE agents from the city.
And, in a move that raises hopes he’ll be fired, white nationalist Stephen Miller was excluded from a two-hour Oval Office meeting about Saturday’s killing of Alex Pretti by federal agents.
That’s not enough. Not nearly enough.
If you haven’t seen the latest New York Times analysis of Pretti’s execution – and can bear to see the video evidence again – please take a few moments to watch it at this free link. The analysis proves definitively that Pretti was not brandishing his gun and posed no threat to the officers.
All of it is chilling, but the heart sinks lower watching officers continue to fire shots at Pretti as he lies motionless in the street. Those shots were pure malice and rage.
Unfortunately, malice and rage are now embedded in our government.
We see it in our nation’s domestic and foreign policies, from the brutal arrests, detention and deportation of nonviolent immigrants, to the elimination of DEI and civil rights protections, to the suspension of SNAP funding and gutting of Veterans Affairs, to the reorganization and politicization of the military, to the empire-building aspirations in Venezuela, Greenland and elsewhere.
To almost everything this administration does.
The slayings of Pretti, Renee Good and Keith Porter Jr. – and all the other violence committed by ICE in the past year – are not aberrations. They’re the results of a plan.
Over and over, this administration smacks us in the face and tells us the sting we feel must be the wind. We need to grab those hands and cuff them.
Defund. Dissolve. Impeach. Fire. Prosecute.
