'Washington has become the court of Nero'
A French senator's speech about Trump's abandonment of Europe that deserves America's notice
Intro by Sam Bellamy
Claude Malhuret, a former leader of Doctors without Borders, is a center-right politician who has served in French Senate for the past 11 years. From 1989 to 2017, he was the mayor of Vichy, a city in southern France infamous for its leadership’s collaboration with Nazis during World War II.
On March 4, Malhuret delivered a compelling speech on the Senate floor in Paris that succinctly summarizes what Donald Trump’s abandonment of Ukraine and embrace of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin mean to our European allies.
“Washington,” he says, “has become the court of Nero: an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a buffoon on ketamine tasked with purging the civil service.”
Watch the full speech below. It should be required viewing by every member of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives — and at least one more view by every Vichy Republican in Washington.
Thanks for sharing this extraordinary inspiring speech. It’s reassuring to know that the world sees the dire situation we are in and will not tolerate it. We shall prevail.
What an amazing speech! Thanks so much for sharing.
