As an American and French citizen, it is clearly the French - having been occupied, terrorized, and too often executed by the Nazis - who understand and know firsthand what the veil arm of fascism is.
An American acquaintance once said to me, "Well, who cares, the war is over."
It's vintage America - what's in it for me in the upcoming moments, days, weeks, months, years.
People who iived through occupation - and lost so many loved ones - will never forget the horror of fascism.
As an American raised by parents and grandparents who helped defeat the nazi authoritarians the LAST time around, I agree with this speech point for point - Europeans have been too complacent relying upon the American defense umbrella, and Americans have been FAR too complacent about the steadily encroaching fascist goals and tendencies rom the Republican party since Nixon.
I for one will NOT go quietly into the good night.
